Commissions

 

  • Cards Commission

This commission is composed of an equal number of journalists and editors. It is chaired by the President of the Press Council. The Cards Commission evaluates applications for press cards and decides whether the applicant should receive a professional journalist’s card. In case of doubt, the applicant will be invited for an interview at the committee meeting.

 

  • Press Card Appeals Commission

This committee deals with appeal procedures initiated by applicants (see Cards Committee) who have been refused a press card. This commission is also composed of an equal number of journalists and publishers. Its chairman is Mr Jean-Claude Wiwinius.

 

  • Mediation and Complaints Commission

This commission deals with the population’s appeals against media representatives. This commission is also composed equally of journalists and publishers. The chairman Mr Jean-Claude Wiwinius. When and how to lodge an appeal is described in the rules of procedure (see “Règlement d’ordre intérieur de la Commission des plaintes“).

 

  • Training Commission

The members of this commission organise annual training courses for potential (mandatory) and established journalists. The chairman of this commission is Misch Pautsch. In addition to courses on Luxembourg institutions, press law, the code of ethics and copyright, optional courses are also organised on topics such as “online research” or the protection of minors, to name but a few.

 

  • Media Literacy – Newspaper in Education

The members of this commission are the contact persons for projects such as “Press in School” or “Press Week”. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and SCRIPT, the Press Council organizes every year the “Young Journalist Competition” for children and young people in youth centres, primary and secondary schools.

 

  • Awards Commission

This commission meets once a year to examine the list of journalists working in Luxembourg with a view to awarding the prizes. Journalists who have worked as professional journalists for 20, 25, 30 or 35 years are eligible for a national order. In addition, active participation in the Press Council may be taken into account for the awarding of the prizes.

 

  • Image Press Commission

This committee deals with the specific problems and concerns of photographers and press cameramen.
